RESEARCH

Its research is mainly limited to the field of road pavements, geotechnics and materials used in civil engineering. Therefore, it has a markedly multidisciplinary character, with the members of the team belonging to the areas of knowledge of Transport Engineering and Infrastructure, Terrain Engineering and Materials Science and Metallurgy.

The research carried out by the CGM is aimed at collaborating with environmental sustainability. The search for and use of environmentally friendly materials and technologies, collaborating with the conservation of natural resources and the reduction of greenhouse gases, is a fundamental pillar for the CGM.

The CGM tries to ensure that its research benefits society in general, seeking solutions to the main engineering problems in its field of action.

The CGM has collaborated on several occasions with experts from other universities, both national (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Universidad de Santiago de Compostela) and international (Universidade do Minho, University of Nottingham), as well as with companies in the sector.

The research is mainly carried out at the CGM’s facilities at the ETSICCP and CITEEC.

Most of the research carried out by the CGM has been financed by R&D&I projects obtained in public calls for proposals. Private collaboration has also been essential to carry out the research.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND CONSULTANCY

In addition, the CGM group performs the functions and activities of technical assistance and consultancy to companies and institutions, in subjects such as road pavement design, traffic engineering and road safety, numerical analysis of pavements, special foundations, ground improvement and environmental geotechnology, etc.

TEACHING WORK

With regard to the teaching work of the members of the CGM, it is worth mentioning that it is mainly carried out at the E.T.S.I.C.C.P. of the UDC.

In addition to teaching on the Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, the Degree in Public Works Engineering, the Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, PhD theses related to the group’s research are supervised and teaching is given on other Master’s degrees, abroad and at the Senior University.

Of course, the group participates in teaching innovation tasks, receiving specific courses, presenting communications in congresses and conferences and implementing the use of new technologies and didactic materials.
