Os materiais son representados por elementos\u00a0 poli\u00e9dricos que forman unha malla tridimensional que se axusta \u00e1 forma do obxecto modelado. Cada elemento comp\u00f3rtase de acordo a unha lei tensi\u00f3n-deformaci\u00f3n establecida (lineal ou non lineal) como resposta \u00e1s cargas que lle sexan aplicadas e \u00e1s condici\u00f3ns de contorno. O material pode\u00a0 plastificar e\u00a0 deformarse\u00a0 pl\u00e1sticamente. Grazas ao esquema expl\u00edcito de c\u00e1lculo e \u00e1 t\u00e9cnica de\u00a0 mallado utilizados, o colapso e o fluxo pl\u00e1stico son modelados con gran precisi\u00f3n.<\/p><p>As deformaci\u00f3ns da malla poden ser tidas en conta coa opci\u00f3n de grandes deformaci\u00f3ns, involucrando pequenos incrementos nos tempos de computaci\u00f3n. Ademais, como non se almacenan matrices, os requirimentos de memoria non son excesivos, a\u00ednda para grandes modelos\u00a0 tridimensionales.<\/p><p>FLAC3D permite a modelizaci\u00f3n de fluxos de auga en chans saturados (en r\u00e9xime permanente ou transitorio) e de problemas axustados fluxo-deformaci\u00f3n. A capacidade do programa \u00e9 moi ampla xa que permite estudar calquera problema xeot\u00e9cnico: an\u00e1lise de deformaci\u00f3ns, c\u00e1lculo de consolidaci\u00f3n primaria e secundaria, factores de seguridade, an\u00e1lises din\u00e1micas, an\u00e1lises de fluxo, an\u00e1lise termal, entre outros.
